What are the pros and cons of being a construction worker?

My name is Ashden, and I’m a 8th grader at crane middle school. I’m currently interested in construction, right now I’m only 13 but I want to do it in the future. I want to do construction because I hear it offers good pay and it keeps you in good shape. It keeps you outside and I like being outside of my house. Construction involves technical skills also so it keeps your brain actively moving and I like building things. I believe construction is a great career and I feel like I would like it a lot. What kinda specific entry- level tasks or safety certifications should a teen look into once they are old enough to start?”

Hi Ashden, I have been in construction for almost 50 years. Most of the time I was a plumber and then a general contractor ( built a few homes) and a building inspector. Construction work is physical hard work, everyday, five days a week. You have to prove yourself every day.
Construction workers work in a hazardous environment, if you do not want to get dirty this is not for you. Sometimes long hours each day, you have to work longer days to get the job done on time. And with very little paid vacations.
The good side of construction is you learn a trade. You are able to perform manual, complex tasks that the average person cannot .
I have enjoyed the construction field where I had a bunch of parts and made something that was needed.
At the end of the day you made something, you see it and you feel a sense of accompaniment.
Good luck to you in your future profession.

The con is that it is physically demanding, the pro is that there will always be a need for construction workers, and if you learn you need and start your own business then you get to work for yourself. My advice is to try either volunteering or interning, that way you can get a feel for it and see if it's for you.

The pro is that you can make a good honest living in construction . There is so much opportunity to grow and learn. The world is always going to need construction workers of all categories. This means job security.
The con is, it is physical and mental and you have to be willing to work hard, be committed and want to grow. It is not for everyone but neither is college.
