I don't know Pakistan at all, so not pretending to help you in detail such as this. Dave has provided some specifics that seem excellent. Definitely pursue those, consider also perhaps some certificate programs that you can do at home, or some seminars. Network as much as you can in this area, different organizations and or people. This way you can have a better view of some other potential areas. I love that Dave mentioned Soft Skills, it is often overlooked, this can make a big difference, being a good team member, and of course do not forget AI. Mostly pursue what you really like, if your good at it, jobs will come, though you must always stay relevant. Today things change so quickly sometimes it's hard to know how to stay relevant, this is where organizations, teams, your network can help out immensely. Best of luck to you in your endeavors and in the future.

David’s Answer

To enter the networking or telecommunications field in Pakistan as a technician, you should start by pursuing a Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) in Electronics, Electrical, or Telecommunications, which is a three-year program available at most technical institutes like TEVTA or DAE colleges. For a faster route into the job market, you can enroll in specialized short-term certificate programs (3 to 6 months) such as the Telecom Technician Training offered by institutes like SINA or the Telecom Foundation, which cover hands-on skills like optical fiber splicing, PABX installation, and network troubleshooting. If you prefer a more academic path, a Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Telecommunications or Computer Science from top universities like NUST, FAST-NU, or COMSATS will provide the deepest theoretical foundation and the highest long-term salary potential.

To advance to a Team Leader position, you must complement your initial education with industry-standard certifications, most notably the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), which is highly valued by Pakistani employers like PTCL, Jazz, and Zong. Many institutes in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi, such as Sprintzeal and United College of Technology, offer dedicated CCNA and CompTIA Network+ training. Progression into leadership typically requires 2 to 5 years of field experience, during which you should focus on mastering project management, soft skills, and advanced technical troubleshooting. Leading teams in Pakistan often involves overseeing large-scale infrastructure projects, so gaining experience with Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) or 4G/5G mobile networks will significantly boost your chances of promotion to a supervisory role.
