How will I be able to keep up with social life when I go off to college and work a part time job at the same time ?

I will be going off to MSOE and I have been told it is a hard college with all the studying and work I will have to put in to graduate. I will also be working a job so I can pay for my tuition and fees. I am just worried if I would even have time to live a life outside of school or work.

Dear Alejandro,

This is a very common concern, and many students feel the same before starting college and a part-time job. The good news is that most people naturally learn how to balance studying, working, and having a social life over time.

At the beginning, it may feel overwhelming, but as you organize your schedule, you will find time for friends, rest, and personal activities. College is not only about studying — it is also about building relationships and learning how to manage responsibilities in a healthy way.

The most important thing is not to feel too pressured. Try to keep a balanced and positive mindset, take things step by step, and allow yourself time to enjoy the experience.

You will adapt and find your rhythm. I’m sure you will do great.

The answers above are great - and I agree with everything they said. Here is what I would add:

Take stock of what is most important to you in your life - this is what to keep and prioritize. You won't be able to keep everything - but you won't WANT or NEED to keep everything! What fills you up and gives you joy? Is there anything you've been meaning to start - and now would be a great time? (i.e. mediation, painting, journaling, jogging, etc.) Are there habits or activities that aren't helpful or productive - or ones that you should cut back on? For instance, in college it might be easy and fun to go out with friends 4 nights a week...but once you start work and get into a different rhythm - perhaps it's once a week and you choose the people who you really want to be with, learn from, laugh with.

This idea of "taking stock" is a good thing to do on a regular basis. It's almost imperative when major shifts happen - graduation, moving, getting married, having kids, etc. But I've found that doing it yearly helps me reset and really look to see if where I'm spending my time is reflective of my goals, values, and who I want to be.

Thank you for your question. This is a question about your time management. Firstly, you need to identify a time management tool to help, e.g. MS Outlook, Google Calendar, Phone calendar, etc.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Put down the time you need to attend classes every day
2. Assign some time every day on your projects and assignments. Review the material covered in the class daily. Ask the tutor on the next tutorial if you have any question.
3. You can then allocate some free time on your part time job.
4. Make sure you have enough time to sleep and do some exercise.
5. You may need to assign more time on revision early to prepare assessments
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!
