What kind of certification should I earn to qualify for this kind of position and gain certain knowledge that aligns with my future career goals?

I want to become a proffessional theatre artist that can make an impact in my community. However, I am unsure of where to get my start when it comes to the college process.

If you don't want to goto a 4 year university and major in theatre, you can start with enrolling in community college or theatre programs or internships in your city or state.

Where I live there is a program for young people to get paid during the summer, learning/practicing a career. I'm not sure if your city has a youth summer job or after-school program like that.

Ask your school's theatre/drama/performing arts teachers and your school counselor for referrals to programs that they may know about.

TRAVIS’s Answer

Theatre is a broad career field. If you choose to pursue that career route, consider all the roles available. Learn something about all of them such as acting, singing, dancing, stage management, lights, sound design, prop and set building. Consider joining any local community theatre troupes as well. There are also touring companies and summer camps you can work at to gain alot of experience quickly. I am not aware of any certifications in this field; experience and skills and audition skills are the most important in my opinion. Practice often and look for as many opportunities as you can to gain experience in every aspect of theatre. Good luck, you will do well.
