How can I find a Philanthropist or Foundation that can help me by way of Scholarship to the tune of approximately $6,700 ?

I really need to pursue pursue a Career in Nutrition and Dietetics. In my High school I did not excel so well because I scored grade D plain and which in the eyes of most sponsors it is far much below the threshold but having said that this performance has not killed my great dream of becoming a Nutritionist ; I have already found " KISMET INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE " in Kenya where I have already been offered an acceptance to a 27 months course starting at Certificate level The grade that I scored is not a reflection of Academic relevance but rather the true reflection of what adverse Family issues can do even to the most determined learners if not well handled and this is a matter that I can not expose here but I am also more that willing to share with Friends who can be willing to help me with advises.

For now all I am really thirsting for is the Financial Aid that will enable me join the College to pursue the Career of my Passion and dream. My Success will first and foremost go a long way in helping my Parents who have struggled a lot in abject poverty Educating especially me as my Elder brothers have benefited from Scholarships from High school all the way to University because they were Academically gifted. But what is more painful is the fact that after graduating they are all Jobless. This pain is too much for my Parents to endure because they hoped their two Sons will help them.

Thank you comment icon Hi MaryAnne, I had to slightly edit your question in order to meet our community guidelines. One of your sentences sounded like you were directly asking for funding from Professionals. Gurpreet Lally, Admin
Thank you comment icon Hi, thanks for taking note. It is my first time on this platform and as a Human being I am not perfect and mistake is to human. Please guide me on the best way I can put across my case. MARYANNE
Thank you comment icon Hi Admin, Thanks for your comprehensive comment on my question. My Dad has tried all the options except the option number 4 ( employment ). Unfortunately my Grade D plain is too weak to win a Scholarship because good grades are given first priority in any Scholarship. Kismet International College is a Private Institution and they don't have Formal scholarships in place save for Discounts which only applies once a Student has joined. So in short I am still here in a fix. MARYANNE

Hey MaryAnne,

Here are my general tips on financial aid:

1. Find LOCAL scholarships (scholarships hosted by the college you plan on attending, your high school, local businesses, etc). Why local? There is usually a smaller application pool for these as you're only competing against your community. For instance, in my hometown, there was a small concrete mixing company that hosted scholarships specifically for seniors who went to my high school. Because I was only competing with a maximum of 800 students, I was able to secure a scholarship! That's not to say you shouldn't apply to bigger scholarships but be mindful of how many people are also submitting applications (sometimes websites will tell you this information).

2. Talk to the financial aid department at Kismet College to learn about opportunities that they may be aware of. Often, institutions may be able to connect you directly with opportunities or, due to partnerships, know of opportunities that are available.

3. The internet offers a ton of opportunities but it can be hard to find the right one. When looking for scholarships, try to be as specific as possible. For example, instead of searching for "scholarships for high school students", try "scholarships for students in Kenya" or "scholarships for nutritionist". This will help you quickly identify scholarships that are a good fit for you.

4. While it's not for everyone, I would recommend looking into part-time work. While in college, I was able to tutor as a nearby tutoring center that offered flexible hours. I normally picked my classes so that I would be in school two days of the week (normally Mondays and Wednesdays) which left me the other days to work and complete school assignments. Other flexible jobs might be nannying or finding an on campus job.
