Hello! I recommend getting a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. (BSN.) After graduation, work for one-two years on a general nursing floor in a hospital that has an NICU. This will enable you to gain experience, hone your skills, and gain confidence.. At that point you can apply for transfer to the NICU, and that unit will provide you with the specialized training you will need. Good luck!

Working in the NICU is a special opportunity, and there are two main paths to get there. You can earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) in 2-3 years at a community college. This option is more affordable and quicker, allowing you to become a registered nurse. However, many NICUs now prefer nurses with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The BSN takes about 4 years at a university, but it is highly valued by NICUs and magnet hospitals. This degree can open more doors for your career in the long run.
