Congratulations on attending UT Austin! Austin is a fantastic place for advertising, with GSD&M being one of the top ad agencies. I've worked with them and shot many commercials in Austin, which has a lively production scene and great casting and post-production resources.
If you're set on studying advertising, start by deciding which area interests you most—creative, account management, strategy, or marketing. Once you know, research and contact a few people at GSD&M and other local agencies about internship opportunities. Agencies are excellent learning environments filled with talented people, and getting an internship can give you a valuable look into the industry.
Be persistent and don't take no for an answer. Many others will compete for the same internships, so reach out to every agency in town and advocate for yourself. Push beyond UT Austin's curriculum to gain real-world experience.

A study habit I picked up in high school and continued in college is re-reading my class notes, along with notes from the last two classes. This way, you go over each topic three times, which really helps it stick. If after three days something is still unclear, use the professor's office hours to get a better understanding before the midterm or final. I hope this tip helps you succeed!

Hi Luka! Try studying for an hour, then take a 15-minute break. Repeat this cycle. It helps to keep study sessions manageable and gives you something to look forward to. During your breaks, have a snack or watch a favorite video to stay motivated.

Hi Luka,
How exciting that you’re starting this new chapter!
The best advice I can share — and something that has truly helped me (and still does) — is organization. Try to tackle the tasks you find most difficult or tedious first. Once those are done, everything that follows feels lighter, and your mindset improves knowing the hardest part is already behind you.
A planner (maybe AI tool) can be a great for this, and it’s something you can start using right away to build that habit.
Wishing you the very best of luck — you’ve got this!💪
