What can I do in order to get my name out there as an aspiring architect, and what else can I do in order to improve my architecture skills? One more question I swear; my professor mentioned architectural model making is a really prominent profession, so I was curious if anyone from that career could give me any advice, or pros and cons to the career as well. Thank you for taking your time to reading this and I hope you have a good day

I feel like as of right now, I'm not where I want to be. All my other peers seem so far ahead of me, and they inspire me to be better every single day, but what is something I can do that can hone my skills at least a little bit better.

Aric’s Answer

Hi Angie,

It's wonderful that you've discovered a passion and are eager to improve yourself. As an architecture student, you have many opportunities to explore as you grow in your studio space. Remember, you might not always see your own talent if you're focused on others. Success often comes from spending time in the studio, talking to upper-year students, and learning from their experiences. You can gain a lot from those who have been there longer. I learned many skills, like model making and furniture design, by being present and learning from others. The more you participate, the more you'll learn and grow. Keep going, and you'll make great things happen. Follow your passion, and remember, you don't have to become an architect unless it's truly what you love. Best of luck!

Hello Angie.
I was in the same position as you are many years ago, as my peers were either very business or aesthetically talented. They end up either very successful or very driven, and the name of that game is volume.
This is where you differ if you keep an open mind, as I’ve done a lot of designs since. Does it put food on the table? Sometimes. And that is what some call the poetic side of architecture.
Not everyone can be successful or driven, and not everyone should be architects for the money. That said, do you like to explore with your hands and make stuff rather than draw things up about what they could be? If that is so, then model making is for you. Keep in mind that the straighter the path, the narrower it is your exposure. Perhaps that is an acceptable trade off.
