Why have to take specific school courses at a young age like history if we aren't growing up to be a history teacher?

because I'm not gonna need to learn about Greek gods to be a lawyer so I feel some courses are not very useful.

Andreea-Raluca’s Answer

I felt the same way in school, wondering why I had to learn things I wasn't interested in. But you never know when that information might come in handy. It might not lead to a career, but it can help you meet people and connect over shared interests like history or other subjects that might seem unimportant now. Usually, everything we learn in school helps us at some point in life!

History course will help you because you're learning about people and how they make decisions. That's super important for a career in law. Try to think of instead of memorizing facts, you're learning how our political and economic system came to be, (because our legal foundation is rooted in ancient Greece).

To add to Andreea-Raluca's response:

In my first two years at university we all had to take The Core, courses we had to take whether we liked it or not.

As a sophmore, I had to take Music Appreciation and Art Appreciation, two credits each. They both went through the eras of mainly European history, and were, for the most part, parallel. Pre-Rennasance, Renaissance, Romanticism and on.

Best courses I have probably ever taken. I have not earned a single cent, from taking them, but I live with the art and music to this day.

Education is not just about earning a living. One has the rest of their life to lead as well.

A good deal of education is an investigation of one's self.
