Roger’s Answer

Hi Isabel,
First off, congratulations - you're a very bright and ambitious young lady. You have so many interests, and things that you excel at, you may need to see what is the MOST interesting/motivating to you, maybe in another year simply because the more time you spend doing the things you do, and take more classes, that will probably crystalize naturally. Having said that, you might want to consider the Fintech area - IT/AI/tech applied to financial operations. If you continue to play volleyball at a high level, there's also opportunities that colleges may be interested in you for your sport and because of your strong academics (I was a college athlete a very long time ago, but your grades are better than mine were lol).
It's good that you're thinking about this now, but you still have some time to narrow down what interests you the most.

Best of luck, you're going to do great!
Roger
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much, Roger! I was just wondering what careers would best fit me because I had to choose a science to take for next year, but wasn’t sure on which one to take. I decided to take IB Physics to support the financial side of my potential careers. Isabel

Patricia’s Answer

Dear Isabel,
Since you might be interested in the medical field, my suggestion would be to join the Future Scientists and Engineers of America (FSEA). FSEA  is an after-school program for grades 4-12 that promotes STEM through hands-on, increasingly complex engineering projects.

Your diverse interests in volleyball, baking, dancing, and community involvement demonstrate how well-rounded you are in adapting to different environments and connecting with different types of people.

We have the same interests in shows, such as Law and Order (SVU), and Criminal Minds.
I wish you the best of luck with your career choice.

Best wishes,
Patricia

Shelley’s Answer

Hi Isabel,

Since you are well rounded in your education, and ambitious, I suggest looking into becoming a Medical Physicist. My Nuclear Medicine career, We work closely with the medical physicist. They do not work directly with patients but they manage the radiation exposure and radiation safety of patients and staff. They round on the Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy departments and ensure radiation safety guidelines are followed and documented. It may sound a little dull but you would get to meet a lot of people/professionals and you would be highly regarded in this profession. My physicist friend also had his own company where he would calibrate other radiation using equipment for dentists and clinics. He is very successful. This profession is in great demand and other areas to work as a medical physicist is Radiopharmacology and clinical research. Good luck to you.
