I'll try to keep it simple and short. There are a lot of forums and platforms that showcase available internships and jobs but here is something you can try from your end besides just applying mindlessly.
1. Shortlist companies that build products in the domain you are interested in which in your case is Gaming and Coding (both go hand in hand)
2. Find the latest jobs that are posted by the company.
3. Ensure your resume is thoroughly tailored to the job, do not modify it to the point of lying but optimize it well. Keep it simple with quantifiable metrics to show your impact. Keep it under a page but not too little.
4. Along with applying, connect with people on platforms like LinkedIn. Networking is crucial. It is an overused word but it works. Even if there is 1 out of 20 people who might help, it truly makes a difference. I personally landed a job through a close referral via networking.
Finally, keep at it. It is a brutal job market out there especially for tech folks but you've got this. Take time outside of applying to keep yourself relaxed and optimistic :)

As a freshman, focus on learning the basics of computer science such as data structures and algorithms, while also practicing debugging and reading other people’s code. Start building simple game projects like a 2D platformer, Pong or Breakout clone, and Snake game using Unity or Unreal Engine. Share your work on GitHub and LinkedIn, and strengthen soft skills such as attention to detail, communication, and teamwork. Build a game-focused portfolio by publishing demos on itch.io, joining game jams and hackathons, getting feedback from developer communities, exploring areas like gameplay, AI, or graphics, and optionally using Codewars to sharpen problem-solving skills.
By your sophomore year, with a stronger CS foundation and clearer direction, you’ll be ready to apply for internships more confidently through platforms like Indeed and LinkedIn, or at companies such as Electronic Arts, as well as programs like Google Summer of Code, where consistent growth and polished projects matter more than grades alone. Actively seek mentorship, network through LinkedIn, Reddit, hackathons, and meetups, and document your work through a strong portfolio and project write-ups, since this is what ultimately turns your skills into real internship and job opportunities, making you job-ready over time.
