What is a career in the law field that is not primarily a desk job and will also not be taken over by AI ?

I am a high school senior going to attend a four year college and I am interested in a career in the law field. I know I do not want to be doing paperwork and sitting in an office all day, or being a trial attorney. All this being considered, I'm not sure if law if the right path for me.

Hi Olivia, great question! Law is a field that really needs human insight and judgment, even though AI is making its way into it. AI can help with organizing and processing information, but human involvement is still crucial. After all, we are the ones who created AI. While it can make our work easier, it can't fully replace us. In law, we can't rely on machines to make important decisions. So, human expertise is still essential.

You’re thinking in the right direction.

There are law-related jobs that aren’t desk-heavy and are hard for AI to replace, such as:

Police officer or detective
Federal agent (FBI, DEA, etc.)
Forensic investigator
Mediator (helping people resolve conflicts face-to-face)

These involve real-world action, people skills, and decision-making—things AI can’t easily do.

But be realistic: most legal careers still include some paperwork. If you really dislike sitting and writing a lot, being a traditional lawyer may not suit you.
