What is your favorite thing about case management, and what is the most challenging for you? What is one crucial thing you've learned through your experience? #Spring26

I'm interning as a case manager, working with homeless families in our rapid rehousing programs, and I'm looking to continue case management permanently. Just wanted input on your experiences.

Hello, I don't work in your field but I do have family members that have spent years working in social work. I will tell you what I hear them talking about as far as likes and dislikes.

They love helping children. The good thing about getting your education in social work is that you are well informed on what that help should look like. From what I hear it usually focuses on keeping the family together through education. I think patience is key with that. My family members usually comment on how receptive families are once they learn the safer way to go about things. They learn about resources available to help them and once they get introduced to those, they can continue on their own without a case workers guidance.

I hear their least favorite part is testifying in court. Also, the fear of the unknown of visiting a new location of a case. It must be worth it though because they have been in that profession for a very long time. I hope you have a great support system that you can count on to share all the good news and be there for you when you need someone to cheer you up from a hard day.
