I have a hard time finding people to practice my Spanish with at college. What other resources could I turn to?

I am a current sophomore in college studying Spanish Education. I have autism and struggle with making friends, and I can never practice Spanish with anyone from my classes...Are there any other resources I can use to find people to study and practice Spanish conversational skills with? #Spring26

Hi Sarah!

I'm not sure where you're located, but most major cities have meetup (https://www.meetup.com/) groups for all sorts of hobbies and interests. I'd look to see if you have a Spanish language group in your area and join that. Another option could be to look at your local library to see if they have opportunities to practice (mine does Japanese and Spanish!). There are also online communities like Discord groups and subreddits dedicated to practicing conversational Spanish, but it's not clear if you're mostly focused on in-person opportunities or if you're open to online options as well.

Hi Sarah,
I think Gupreet gave you already some nice piece of advices.
One more thing you can do is watching movies/series with subtitles (take easy movies or even cartoons, that are easy to understand especially in the begin). Then practice in groups like meetup or any other app like Internations, where you'll surely find people to practice with :)

A great way to practice your Spanish would be to volunteer at nonprofits where Spanish-speaking people either work or benefit from the nonprofit's services. Additionally, your Spanish teacher might have some good resources on campus where they would recommend for additional practice of your conversational skills. There may also be Spanish clubs on campus that attract students interested in practicing.
