Check out local foundations or organizations in your town that offer scholarships. These are often the least applied for because many people don't know they exist.

For smaller scale scholarships look at what your high school has to offer. They usually put money aside from local businesses, families, organizations, clubs, non-profits and of course sports. You may be viable for different ones and don't even know! Usually you apply and have to write a paper on why you believe you would be a good candidate for the award. For example: if you were to want a Writing Scholarship from the High School, you would need to choose a topic they supply and then sell yourself. Or, if there are any in-town foundations that align with your background, like an Italian Association, Irish Club or Spanish Organization for instance. You may discuss how your culture is relevant to your future success. Good luck!
