Why are women still so majorly underrepresented in the financial field despite recent progress? #Spring26
I am in 12th grade and a woman interested in entering the finance field. I have spent the past year doing a research project on the underrepresentation of women in the finance field and how it compares across major financial hubs in the US.

This is a thoughtful question. While there has historically been underrepresentation, it is the growing interest and commitment of women like you that will continue to close this gap. I have been working in the finance field for nearly nine years, and during that time, I have seen meaningful progress.
Several factors are helping drive this change, including increased support for women as they navigate parenthood, as well as stronger mentorship opportunities. These efforts are making a real difference in creating a more inclusive environment.
I would encourage you to continue pursuing your interest in finance with confidence. Focus on doing your very best, both for yourself and for the many young women who will follow in your footsteps.
I look forward to welcoming you to the finance community.

To tackle underrepresentation, focus on what you want to do, not what others think you should do. If you're interested in this field, pursue it! More women are looking to work with other women in finance, offering services and advice. While there may be fewer women now, each woman who joins helps make the field more diverse.

From my experience at different banks over the past 15 years, it seems like this hasn't been the case at all. Be selective in choosing the right employer for you.

I don't mind if you're a man or a woman. What matters to me is that you're good at what you do and that we can trust each other.

Representation matters. Take action to improve it. Even if things seem tough now, focus on creating the future you want. You will build strong connections with other women in any field you choose. Use these connections to help you succeed.
