Why is vocational school more expensive than a university?

I am going to Carrington college in Reno Nevada and it is $68,000 and going to UNR would be $38,000

It really shouldn't be, but it can be. Vocational schools that cost more than colleges usually have professional equipment for students that sometimes universities don't. The plus is you get hours on the actual equipment and that translates quickly into a job, but you don't get a degree.

One example is communications. If you go to a vocational school for communications you will likely have hands on cameras, microphones, consoles, cut edit workstations etc. If you go to a university for communications, you will touch the equipment but it may be old and outdated, courses will focus more on writing and administration than equipment. This is just one example, it all depends on specifically which school and what subject.

Mainly because most vocational schools are proprietary schools - meaning privately run for-profit schools. Where you are sounds like a private school. If your a Nevada resident, is UNLV about the same cost as Reno? What state schools are in Carson? (Not the high spot of the world, I realize lol, but it's only a few years.)
Depending on the field, look into adult education programs at state and community colleges in Nevada because in-state tuition rates are a great deal less than private schools. Also, look into adult or continuing education programs offered by the various public school districts in Nevada (and possibly other states). Many of those train for various trades and career paths, from electrical to cosmetology.
