At 15, you're at a great starting point to explore your interests and build skills. Begin by learning about basic electrical safety and workplace precautions. See how professionals stay safe and follow rules when working with live systems. Look for opportunities that align with your interests, like electronics maintenance, device repair, or helping an electrician or technician. Get hands-on experience by spending time with electricians and working under supervision. Shadow electrical installation work to see how wiring, circuits, and conduit setups are done in real projects. This gradual learning will give you a solid foundation and prepare you for an electrical apprenticeship in the future.

You can definitely look into summer part time jobs that include working at gardening centres, retail jobs at stores and car detailing. Retail jobs include face to face interactions and can help you gain confidence by building your interpersonal skills. If you like to work physically then a gardening store is great place because you can get to work on watering plants, taking care of plants and keeping them in a good condition so that people can buy them.
At 15, you can volunteer or job shadow an established electrician and understand what their day to day job looks like by going to different worksites with them. You can start reading on electrical standards like the NEC ( National Electrical Code in the US) .

Ilan’s Answer

Hi Nickolas,

To be honest I do not know much about becoming an electrician, and the hiring of interns in that field. But, I'll tackle the two scenarios I believe to understand and hope one of them applies to you.

If you can be an intern at 15 as an electrician, then go for it. Learn the day-to-day, understand what you need to focus on, see what are the requirements, and of course build your skills. I know you asked about a good paying job, but I would say to focus right now on learning than focusing on the money. The market pays for people who are needed, and you are needed if you have the skills, or more skilled than the rest of the people around you. By learning those skills early, you will be miles ahead on your peers, and could have more negotiating power later in life when you join the workforce.

If you cannot become an intern, you should request to shadow. It usually does not pay at all, but again, learning on the job is worth 1000 times more than learning in class. Being able to see the labor, understand the application, is much better than wasting time reading a textbook and trying to understand what is going on in there.

I know your whole prong was about making money now, but at 15 it would be hard to find a position that pays that well as your skill level is still at its early stages.

I hope this help!
Good Luck!
