Vianne’s Answer

A day in the life of a social worker in community engagement feels a lot like my past work with kids in supportive settings. Most of the day is about building trust and being there for young people and their families. I check in with clients, help them find resources like counseling, housing, school support, or food assistance, and work with community programs to make sure they get what they need. It's really about meeting people where they are emotionally and helping them feel supported during tough times.

From my time working with kids and families at places like the YMCA, I've learned how important it is to be patient, communicate well, and adapt to different situations. Social workers in community engagement often juggle direct interaction with organizing things behind the scenes. One moment, I might calm down a tense situation with a young person; the next, I could be talking with parents, taking notes, working with community partners, or planning outreach activities. A key part of the job is creating safe and welcoming spaces where young people feel heard and respected.

Chin Lee’s Answer

Building on Laura's answer, you can also make friends with the families or individuals in need. Encourage others, including the public and businesses, to join in and help however they can. Once you understand what the family or person needs, try to connect them with a government program that can provide the right support.

By doing this, you'll feel happy and fulfilled, knowing you've made a difference in someone's life.
