What career should I pursue, I am from biology background and confused?

Hey, I am a 3rd year student at IISER Bhopal. I am very much confused about what career should I pursue. After coming to the institute I got to know that I am not interested in research. In school I used to get good marks in everything so never thought of any subject as my fav one. Currently I am not interested in any kind of activities. I feel demotivated often. Sometimes it feels like that maybe I should join Indian foreign services but feels like I am behind and I don't want my parents to know about it and after my post graduation I need some kind of job or work. Then I think of being a business woman (joining iim) but then I don't know if I will like that career because since my school days I was never interested in it. My college grades are very bad.
My dreams or things that I want to get fulfilled: 1) Time for my family and myself; 2) I want to build a university of my own; 3) I want to travel in foreign countries; 4) A good and stable income; 5) Social work

The best career move is usually the one that stretches you slightly beyond your comfort zone. Challenge yourself regularly with new responsibilities, different environments, and projects outside your current skill set.

I also started with a biology background, and what really helped me was trying out different things and noticing what made me feel excited. Your major or background doesn't limit you to just one career forever. It's perfectly fine to feel uncertain, and it's okay if your path changes as you discover more about yourself.

Hi Keerti!

I think it's very common for people to feel confused/directionless after graduating from college, so know you're not alone! If you are interested in Indian Foreign Services, I would still apply even though you feel behind. It's still possible they can accept you, or if they don't it could be a good opportunity to ask for feedback to see what else you could improve on/gain to continue moving on in the professional world. There is a profession in the US called medical social work and I wonder if there is something similar in India? That could definitely combine your biology background with your interest in social work and helping other people. In the mean time, could it be helpful to look into local medical non profits or maybe just local clinics to see if they are hiring for any positions? That position could simply be a stepping stone to gain experience and figure out what you do or don't like for future positions. I'm hoping this helped even just a tiny bit!!

Good luck!

Thank you fir your question. I am glad to know you have interest in Biology.
Below are my suggestions :
1. There are many careers related to biology, eg zoologist, park ranger, biology teacher, environmental science consultant, etc you can find out mire online
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Seek guidance from thr professors and speak to alumni
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Select the subject relevant to the careers
6. Explore any intern opportunities working in the industry

Hi! If I was in your position, I would network and ask people with a healthcare background of their experience. I am sure many have had the same feeling you are feeling right now. I would recommend reaching out, learning their story, and taking any guidance they can share!
