Is the Coursera IBM Data Science Certificate actually valued by Indian employers, or is Intellipaat/IIT Roorkee the safer bet for placement?
I see a lot of praise for international certifications on this sub IBM Data Science Professional Certificate on Coursera, Google Data Analytics, etc. And sure, the content quality seems solid. But here's my concern:
Indian recruiters, especially at mid-size companies, may not recognize these as much as they would an Intellipaat certificate or something co-branded with iHub IIT Roorkee. The IIT name carries real weight here in ways it might not internationally.
So my question is specifically for people who've been through hiring in India: Does a Coursera certification help or hurt you compared to a domestic paid program? And is the IIT Roorkee branding on Intellipaat's course something that actually comes up in interviews, or is it just a selling point?

The key is to be clear about your goals and follow through. Choose a path like data analyst or ML engineer, and create at least three strong projects. Gain experience through internships, volunteering, or freelance work. Prepare well for interviews, especially in SQL and problem-solving, and apply widely. Tailor your resume, boost your LinkedIn profile, and practice with mock interviews. Success relies more on your skills, direction, and execution than on where you learned them.

The IIT Roorkee branding does matter for shortlist value in India and can help get initial recruiter attention, especially with Intellipaat’s structured placement support. But that brand is more of a door-opener than a job guarantee; some feedback suggests you should verify how the placement pipeline actually works before paying.
My view: IBM for learning, Intellipaat/IIT for signaling + placement structure. If you can build strong projects on your own, IBM is enough; if you want a more guided path into the Indian market, Intellipaat is the safer commercial choice.

While programs like Intellipaat + IIT Roorkee might catch recruiters' attention because of the IIT name, what truly matters in interviews is your practical knowledge, portfolio, and ability to solve problems.

In my opinion, Indian employers care more about your actual skills, projects, and interview performance than the certificate itself. The IBM Data Science certificate on Coursera is respected for learning quality, especially if you build strong projects alongside it.
That said, the IIT branding on programs like Intellipaat + IIT Roorkee may attract more attention initially in India because the IIT name is familiar to recruiters. But during interviews, your practical knowledge, portfolio, and problem-solving ability matter much more than the certificate logo.
