Hi Noah:

I would look for different volunteer opportunities in your local community.

You can look at a variety of options by looking online or going to the local organizations in your region.

If you are interested in education, or something health or physical fitness, then I would go to your local YMCA or Boys Clubs to see if they have something available to volunteer for.

The Salvation Army might be something to volunteer for, if you are interested in exploring social services.

If you are interested in the law or legal services, you can explore options at your local courthouse or court clerk's office.

Volunteerism, is one of the best ways that I know to explore possible career options, before making a commitment for the future.

Hi Noah,

Trying something is never wasted. Have a bias for action and test as many things as you can.

For long-term career happiness, think about how to align your job with what genuinely interests you. If you like computers, pursue something technical. If you're drawn to law, try the legal track.

Most careers have a low-cost way to sample them:
- Take a self-paced course on YouTube, Coursera, or a similar site
- Build a small project on your own, like writing a simple program or an article in a field you care about
- Talk to people already doing the work

Your school doesn't need to offer any of this. The resources are open to anyone with an internet connection, so limited options at school aren't much of a constraint here.

A high school student can start by trying different activities, joining organizations, learning new skills, and paying attention to what they enjoy doing. It also helps to talk to people who work in different careers and ask about their experiences.

You don't have to know exactly what you want to do right away. The important thing is to explore, learn about yourself, and be open to discovering new interests along the way.
