i need to find one that i can do at 5-8.

Thank you comment icon 14 is the minimum age for part-time, non-agricultural work. Because you are under 16, there are strict safety and hour rules: • The Hours: Maximum of 3 hours on a school day and 18 hours total a week when school is in session. • The Rules: You can only work between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, and you cannot work in dangerous jobs (like operating heavy kitchen machinery). 🍦 Where Can You Work? • Local Fast Food & Ice Cream: National chains like Braum's hire 14-year-olds for front-counter roles (scooping ice cream, registers). • Grocery Stores: Companies like Kroger and Publix hire young teens as baggers or stockers. • Neighborhood Hustles: Setting your own rates for babysitting, mowing lawns, or dog walking often pays the best cash. Hi Emily,

At 14, some places might not hire you yet, but there are still ways to earn money and gain experience.

Try babysitting, dog walking, or helping neighbors with yard work like mowing and weeding. If you're good at a subject, tutoring younger kids is also a great idea. If your family has a business, see if they need help.

For jobs in Statesville, check local grocery stores, ice cream shops, farms, or community centers. Even if they say they hire older kids, it’s worth asking in person—some managers might be flexible.

Since you want to work from 5 PM to 8 PM, be clear about your schedule when applying. Employers appreciate knowing when you can work. Also, have a parent check NC labor laws for 14-year-olds to understand the hourly limits.

Good luck! It's great that you're looking for a job. Even a small job can help you save money and look good on a resume later.

If you're feeling adventurous, bike or walk around your neighborhood today and ask businesses if they hire 14-year-olds and how to apply.

Hi Emily!

The Statesville Police Department has a Junior Ambassadors Program that could be perfect for you! It's a great chance to help your community, learn leadership skills, and get to know local law enforcement. Also, the Statesville Family YMCA is a fantastic place to begin. I started my career journey at a YMCA, and it was a wonderful experience!
