What Makes Accounting Challenging to Learn?

I'm interested in learning more about accounting and would like to know what aspects people find the most difficult. Is it understanding the concepts, working with numbers, or keeping up with all the rules and procedures?

Also, how long does it usually take to study accounting and become slope comfortable with the basics?
