How long does it take to become a veterinary technician? What education is needed?
I am a senior in high school and I'm interested in becoming a vet tech. I love working with animals so I'm really interested in learning more about this field of work.

Amie’s Answer
My name is Amie and I have been part of the veterinary industry for 21 years. I'm a very young and hip 43-year-old. The industry has changed dramatically towards corporate ownership. Nowadays everyone wants you to be licensed. HOWEVER, if you do it my way - which is intern in high school at your local veterinary clinics - take that knowledge and get a kennel or veterinary assistant job! Then once you prove your spot you will get a veterinary technician job! Then you can go anywhere you want to. This might be an unorthodox way to do things (now) but it worked for me and I am the most successful I've ever been in my life. You may have to accept a little lower pay then graduating LVTs but let me tell you, I trained LVTs right out of college and I never had my degree. As long as you really care... I mean REALLY care beyond the ADVERISTY that others present you...and you dedicate yourself? That's all that matters. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
