What should I do as an undergrad to pursue my MD/MBA in grad school?

I want to major in biology as an undergrad (I'm currently beginning my senior year in high school) and continue onto medical school. I'm also interested in business, and the majority of the colleges I'm looking into offer the MD/MBA program. Should I double major in biology and business? O #college-major #college-majors r minor in business? #medicine "md/mba

I would never discourage you from pursuing an MD/MBA in grad school. I would just suggest that you know exactly why you are doing it. Taking on the extra load can be tough so as long as you have a specific end game in mind that warrants the dual degree then by means GO FOR IT!

First of all, you should take great consideration into exactly why you want to pursue an MD/MBA track instead of pursuing either exclusively. These programs are extremely expensive, and in many cases, you can become successful without them (i.e. some people enter hospital administration or become CEO or CFOs of hospital systems without MD degrees and some people own medical practices without MBA degrees).

If you decide you definitely want to pursue an MD/MBA program, you can major in any area you want - preferably science though so you can have a strong background with which you can apply to medical school. A person does not need to major in business as well to pursue a program of this type. Typically, you won't apply directly for MD/MBA programs; instead, at many institutions, you apply for the MBA program once you are already a first or second year medical student. This makes it more important to focus on getting into medical school and focus on getting into MBA programs later (typically, MBA programs save spots for medical school students).

Major in whatever field interests you and will allow you to maintain an excellent GPA. I majored in Spanish literature and had no trouble with my med school applications. You do need to complete the pre-med requirements, preferably with A’s. These include at least a year of biology, 1 year inorganic chemistry, 1 year organic chemistry + labs, physics, calculus, and biochemistry. Your junior year, you will need to take an MCAT study course prior to taking the MCAT. With a solid GPA and MCAT score, you should be a competitive applicant.
