What classes should I be looking into in high school to become a neonatal nurse?

I am currently an eighth grader and I am interested in being a nurse, but specifically a neonatal nurse. I would like to know what type of classes I should take in high school and throughout college. Also if there is anything I should be doing now to get ready to be a nurse. #neonatal-nurse #nursing #nurse

Hi Brionna! I am glad you asked early. You will need to be able to use a computer well, and any of the sciences Biology, Chemistry, Math, Writing, English classes will be very helpful for your future as a nurse. There are no classes that you can take to specialize in neonatal nursing per se, a lot of the specialization comes with on the job experience. You will get neonatology as part of you obstetric rotation and classes in nursing school, and you will have a clinical in that area as well ( you will actually observe and care for different patients in different areas of the hospital). I wish you the best of luck. Nursing is a wonderful profession. Lisa

Hi Brianna! Nursing is a wonderful career. I hope that you continue to pursue your interest in nursing in high school and continue in nursing school. Nursing, particularly anything in pediatrics, requires a lot of math. Most of the dosages of medicines used for these little ones are based on their weight so you need to be able to figure the dosage out sometimes. I would recommend that you concentrate your efforts in science and math as nursing requires both. Best of luck and study hard!
