How often do you travel for work?

I work as an auditor in public accounting and I travel weekly based on client needs. It is great being able to travel for work and experience new cities, I would highly recommend it if you have the opportunity to do so. Frequently, job descriptions will list out the expected amount of travel for that job position.

This can vary greatly depending on the line of work you're in. If you're an automotive mechanic or facilities manager, you will likely not be traveling for work often. However, if you work with clients that are based in other cities, you might travel for work quite often.

In my case, I travel for work every 4-6 weeks, depending on seasonality. As I'm an account manger/strategist with a portfolio across various metros in the United States, I have to travel to meet with my clients at least quarterly. This requires me to travel quite often.

Keep in mind, work travel is still work; oftentimes I have more work to do during my travels, since I'll be in meetings during the day and still have to keep on top of my email and financials during the evenings.

That said, traveling for work is a great privilege, as you'll get to visit potentially new places, meet new people, and try new foods. It's a wonderful experience if you can find it!

Frequency of work travel is based entirely on the role/job. If you work in a call center as a call agent, it is unlikely you would ever travel, except to the call center of course. If you are a real estate agent, you will spend most of your time showing houses or going to closings. Eighty percent of your work week might be on the road...

The amount of traveling depends solely on the type of career chosen. Individuals who choose sales positions have the opportunity to travel domestically or internationally based on the type of product or service sold and the clientele purchasing.

Several of my friends work in the Oil and Gas industry as Engineers, Chemists and Geologists and this has afforded them the opportunity to travel and live abroad.

I am an auditor and I travel one or two weeks per month on average. And it's fun! But the amount of travelling depends on the type of job you have, so you should consider this before deciding what job are you looking for if this is a concern!

I just started my new role, but expected to travel every 3-4 weeks. Being in market to visit my hotel partners/clients is extremely important to knowing the market and trends. I'm very fortunate to be able to do this much travel. This is actually the first job I've had that encourages it. Definitely different than leisure travel but the new trend now is bleisuretravel, where people blend business and leisure travel together by extending their stays.
