Kitty’s Answer

Good afternoon!

I run a photography studio (the books and bookings) for a photographer based out of Dallas, Tx. In regards to skills and skillsets, photography starts with vision and passion. If it is something you love and get excited about doing, take some on-line courses (most are free) and learn more about photoshop (lightroom) and decide what type of camera you want to use. Research is key on what would work best for you. The amazing thing about photography, is the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There is no "wrong way" …. only growth and learning from every time you work on your craft. Wishing you the best of luck and most of all, have fun!

Hi Sergio

You don't say where you are in school, high school or college, but I would say one of the big qualifications is education and training in digital photography and familiarization with computer programs such as Photoshop. Work on a portfolio that showcases your talents, interests, and skills. You probably know this already.

Another qualification would be experience, even as a student. Photography can be a very competitive, so experience could set you apart. See if you can get some sort of a paid or unpaid internship with a professional photographer. This would give you valuable experience and a mentor in the field. Also, check out opportunities in your school or university where you could use your photography skills, such as working on the school yearbook or school newspaper.

As with all competitive art fields, your positive attitude and flexibility, along with a willingness to learn, to take direction, and to work hard are also important qualifications. You'll find that there are lots and lots of talented young photographers out there, and no art director has to hire a photographer with an "attitude", so be polite, friendly, and humble.

I hope you get some response from a professional photographer, but this might get you started.

Best wishes!
