Lisa’s Answer

Depending on what area you're going into you may find some professions in health care are female dominated. There are certain personality types that are attracted to areas of healthcare. An orthopedic surgeon is likely to have a completely different personality and working style than a neonatal nurse. There are a lot of professional organizations and online communities available for support and advice. Seek out female leaders in your chosen profession and try to find mentors. They will give you the best advice regarding what to expect in your interactions with colleagues, patients, and others and how best to handle any challenges you may encounter.

Ngozi’s Answer

It can be difficult sometimes depending on what part of health care. I worked in the oral surgery unit for a year. I had patients who asked for male dentists instead of me only because they thought I was too fragile to extract their tooth. Although I cleared their doubt everytime. But sometimes I feel men have it easier by not needing to gain the patients confidence.
I also had an issue with a female dental assistant who refused to give me challenging cases cause I was female (note that I was a resident) but would always offer the male students who couldn't. Most people do not realize it's all about technique.
It can be quite exhausting sometimes but I still feel very much fulfilled.

I think in reality it is challenging to work in a male dominated environment BUT if you're a strong, hard working, confident woman you are very capable of working in a male dominated world. You need to set your boundaries as a woman who needs to be respected, challenged, and be treated as a human being.

Dheeraj’s Answer

A recent study stated that patients who have female doctors have a better outcome.
Today there are more female doctors in primary care than other specialities and they have lower growth potential as the employers tend to provide less compensation to females.
As long as you are aware of your potential there is no reason why you should earn less than your male counterparts
