Most bachelor's degree programs in elementary education require students to complete a student teaching program. Student teaching programs allow students to gain hands-on learning under the supervision of a mentor teacher as well as gain experience working in a classroom with actual students. Throughout this time, student teachers are gradually given responsibilities, such as developing lesson plans or teaching a lesson to the class. Student teaching usually occurs during the last semesters of a teacher education program.
STEP 3.) GET YOUR TEACHERS LICENSE
The exact requirements for licensure (or certification, as its called in some states) will vary with each individual state, but they usually include passing a background check and certification exams. States typically issue these certifications or licenses by grade level, so potential elementary school teachers will usually have to pass an exam in elementary education – such as the NES Elementary Education exam or the Elementary Education Praxis exams – as well as a basic skills test.
Some states may have additional requirements for teachers over time, such as professional development requirements to maintain or renew licensure. There are also some states that require teachers to obtain their master's degree. First things first, got to get through high school and college. Check your state's requirements to teach. Most educations systems require a degree. Become certified. Find opportunities to gain experience teaching like shadowing a classroom. Being a bilingual can give you a step up on the competition as some school districts are looking for that skill. Research areas of need state programs and federal programs that could provide loan forgiveness.
