Krystin’s Answer

I am a new grad in the ultrasound field. My favorite part of the field is feeling like you're helping people. I didn't want the job demands of nursing, but I wanted to make a difference. To be able to listen to someone's concerns and find a reason for their discomfort is the best feeling. Even if it's a bad finding, you are helping that person advance their medical treatment. And when you don't find anything, you're helping their physicians rule out a list of things.
Another plus is the wide range of fields you can work in. I would recommend as many registries as you can get. Many people I've talked to specialized only in one area and are feeling burnt out mentally and physically doing the same exams for years on end.
Best of luck with your career!

Krystin recommends the following next steps:

Obtain as many RDMS registries as possible, at least ABD, OBGYN and RVT

Kerry’s Answer

I am extremely passionate about OB/GYN ultrasound. After 16 years in the field, I'm still learning and seeing new things every day. It is a very challenging career, but certainly rewarding. My patients become family and the relationships I build with the providers are also super important to me. I wouldn't change a thing about the field I chose! It has been so good to me!

Shelley’s Answer

Hi Katelyn, I am a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and after 23 years in Nuc Med, I went to nursing school. I did so to expand my imaging career. Imaging has been a wonderful career. In my opinion, Patient care is fulfilling and operating complex equipment is very exciting. In the course of my career, I have been able to specialize in Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology and general medicine. I have found there is an even mix of men and women working in the Radiology department, staff are close knit and helpful to one another.

I do want to mention, that I worked for a major Pharmaceutical company as a subject matter expert in my field to help train sales staff. I mention this because there is a need for Technologist in corporate settings and Imaging experience is very valuable. Every scan you do will be different because each patient is different. Good luck.
