What is like to be a fashion designer?
I love to sew and I am self taught. I have been sewing for a year or two and I hope to one day have my own business. I also love children and helping people in need.

Being a designer has changed quite dramatically over the past few years due to rise of social media, influencers and online buying. Traditional retail has contracted very much due to these changes and the challenges of the economy. However, I believe that if someone is talented, driven and entrepreneurial they can succeed. You must be nimble - willing to change when needed - and the biggest lesson you must learn is that “it” is not about what you think is cute/great/would wear - those matter - but you must be willing to understand what drives consumer behavior - what are their needs? That will make you successful - being able to identify needs in the market that aren’t being addressed. Having said all that I will say that the life of a designer is different every day - which is great for someone who enjoys variety and the challenges of a varied day. I was self taught as well - in sewing - but realized I needed to attend design school to learn how to make patterns, production techniques, fittings etc. So, keep going! You might try some online classes initially to see if you like those parts of the job and look at design schools.

Hello,
Our Interests match so much. I was interested in fashion designing, I started with learning to sew then embroidery. Both of these skills helped design dresses and purses. I did not take it as my career though.
My suggestion to you would be to join a professional course where you will learn to design, being creative with your work, work with different materials and teachers. It will be a methodical approach for fashion and creative designing. There are a lot of fashion designing institutions that you can join.
Secondly, work on both new trends and adding some culture to them.
