[closed] Is it expected to mainly agree with everthing that people tell you in the workplace?

Hello,
My name is Aimee and I am a business major with an interest in administration and a major of management. Business does not have to be boring, but unfortunately it is stereotyped to be so. I would love to learn more about thinking creatively for office management because it is my passion. Over the past few months I have started to analyze why I felt I mainly had to agree with others. I believe that I did it just for the sake of pleasing others, and then later on I would would horrible for not thinking about the condition, issue, or topic at hand. This is not to say that I strive for non-understanding because it is my goal to always respect others and strive for an understanding. I feel that people can be given the option to "agree to disagree" occasionally. For example, I would agree to disagree with someone who eats differently because of different energy needs and the fact that our bodies are all made differently. I think that it is far better to say "Why not try this?" and come up with new and creative ideas that are different than the same and overused methods. It makes life more exciting and inspiring. Are there are some ways that managers can think out of the box and still get needed results in?

Thank you. #business-administration #office-management #creativity

I think polite disagreement is a sign of leadership, as long as the opinion is based on fact. If you have have a clear understanding of the subject matter, don't hesitate to speak up in a meeting or on a conference call. A clear, concise response citing your point of view, and facts to support it will be acknowledged and respected.

It's OK to disagree but remember there is a time and a place for everything. How you choose to go about it is very important and sometimes you need to choose your battles. Also, some organizations appreciate candor more than others. If this is something that is important to you then you may want to feel it out during the interview process. Remember when you interview that you are both trying to find a good fit so make sure and ask thoughtful questions that will give you a better idea what the work and the culture are like.

Hey Aimee, in the professional world it isn't expected for you to agree with what people tell you. You can and should have a strong view point on what you think is correct. I'm not saying you shouldn't listen to what others have to say, listening is a great skill that will help you through out your career. But you are never obliged to always agree with your colleagues or boss. The reason you were most likely hired is because of your unique voice and perspective. Never lose sight of that reality. Your opinions, ideas and thoughts are uniquely you.
