Any creative business is a tough one to break into, but having a strong body of work (even if it's personal, un-commissioned art) is a great start. Your fanart, original characters, and random drawings all count! Social media is a great place to check out other artists and see how they're building their portfolio--specifically, Twitter and Instagram have a lot of aspiring artists focused on manga. Many of these folks run Discord servers exclusively for other artists, so when you get comfortable in a social media community, feel free to ask around about this. Oftentimes you'll become friends with these folks, and those friendships will turn into connections with great industry-specific advice!

Additionally, as with any media career, knowing the canon is important. Make sure you've read/watched anime classics. Familiarize yourself with what's new in major publishing houses and viewing platforms. You don't need to know everything, but you should be comfortable answering questions like:
- What's your favorite recent anime (released in the last 3 years)?
- Do you have a favorite anime from the 90s?
- Which manga most inspires your work?
Twitter and Instagram will help with this, as folks on those sites discussing anime are often discussing new anime (and will give you great recommendations).

As far as more traditional steps go, consider classes or a degree in art or design. You don't have to attend the best anime program on Earth (though I'm sure that helps), as creative fields are more about understanding the fundamentals and applying them across the board.

And really, don't discount your fanart! In recent years, I've seen Twitter friends go from creating fanart for popular shows to becoming animation assistants, background designers, etc.--all promising entry points for the larger field.

Best of luck to you! I hope to see your work in the future.

Manga are comics comic books are animation and drawing of sorts. One must have a creative side. Comic books are fading out not much money, however for a hobby would be great. If you want to write or create animation. Design or 3D academics would be a great start. If you like comics you would probaly do well doing super heros and fun adaptation. Does that give you enough information you need? Column writers are fading as we all know everything is going digital online. So no more Sunday newspapers. However tech writers are stil in demand, writers for online companies are a good field too. Education is always the key to any business you want to go into. If you are an artist display your work for free and get opinions about your work . Good luck in the future!
