What does a typical day consist of in the corrosion engineering field?

I would like to be a corrosion engineer when I graduate from college. I am asking this question because I am hopefully attending the University of Akron in the fall of 2017. I would like to see what the field is like before I dive right into it. #engineering #chemical-engineering #corrosion-engineering

Your best bet to understand daily work of a corrosion engineer will be to get internships at companies that hire corrosion engineers or have corrosion teams (the oil and gas industry is the archetypal industry that hires corrosion engineers but they aren't the only place to look).

But generally speaking, it would be your job to advise on materials selection in the design phase of a project if needed, develop and manage a corrosion maintenance program, investigate corrosion problems and failures attributed to corrosion. You could also be involved with developing new materials that have specific corrosion resistance for new applications.
