Angela (Angie)’s Answer

Hello Ella, great job thinking ahead! I've found that a great resource for researching future careers is the Bureau of Labor and Statistics. It gives you: median pay, education needed, job outlook (growing or declining jobs,) and many more informative facts such as what they do, work environment, etc. It also matters on your region, so you can research job growth/decline for your area.

Angela (Angie) recommends the following next steps:

Speak with your Academic Advisor.
Do internships or job shadowing, and speak to people who currently do a role you are interested in. Ex: anthropologists, geoscientists, teachers, etc. https://www.bls.gov/ooh/life-physical-and-social-science/geographers.htm#tab-8

Bruce’s Answer

Geography degrees may be considered roots for other jobs. I have a colleague who is a weatherperson on TV. He has a geography degree and one in meteorology as well. This is the type of degree that will offer opportunities to you that need to be investigated while in school -- internships, summer work, etc. Another friend discovered a love of cartography which he melded with photography and works for a GPS photo company. This degree, IMHO, may be what you make of it -- be aggressive in your discovery of what it can do --- perhaps you may want to teach as well?

Preeti’s Answer

I have heard friends who have done Geographic Information Systems is a pretty good job to have for those who are studying Geography. Alternatively there is always teaching. Where I am from, they always need humanities teachers.
