Miranda, Molecular Biology is certainly very exciting! You have an opportunity to learn about and participate in groundbreaking research that teaches us about who we are. Most biological sciences program provide rigorous curricula, it is difficult to compare whether one field is more rigorous than another simply because that depends on the student's sentiment. Be sure to look closely at courses required for various programs and see which plan may appeal more to your interests. You will likely find that the program that offers coursework in subjects you are really passionate about, isn't all too bad!

Hi Miranda,

Molecular biology is a more specific subject - meaning it's likely a 300- or 400-level course at colleges / universities. So in terms of rigor, it's going to be similar to other 300- or 400-level course. Where it differs from some other biological science classes is that it's going to require pre-requisites in Chemistry as well. So you'll need to make sure you have a good understanding of Chemistry whereas others may not. Lastly, this means you'll also need to do more lab courses. At my college, there were lab courses in addition to Chemistry and Biology lecture courses. So you may end up needing to do double the lab courses compared to other classmates.
