Biology is one of the most common majors for predental students, however it is not a REQUIRED major. It's important to major in something that interests you and that you feel you will do well in. If your interest is dentistry there are many ways to demonstrate your interest while an undergraduate student such as shadowing a local dentist, participating in local health fairs, and mission trips. No matter what you major in, try your best to do well and focus on knocking the DAT out of the park. Best of luck!

Thank you comment icon What an awesome response! I understand that it doesn't matter what major you go in as long as you cover the basics? I think that's what I am understanding from your response! And if so, thank you for being so elaborate! Tiffany

If you look at the websites of dental schools, you will see the courses specifically required for admission. Generally these include biology, chemistry and physics, but may also require English or other humanities courses. So having a science major you will be required to take many of the same courses you will need for dental school admissions. But Dr. Allen is correct--almost any major will be satisfactory so long as you take the specific courses required for admissions, and have an overall good academic record.
