As a potential Engineering major, I would like to know the possibility of pursuing Engineering as well as Vocal Teaching at the same time.

I love music, and have played piano for thirteen years. I have been in my school choir for seven years, and I made first chair All-State Choir last year. I would love to incorporate music into my every day life. #mechanical-engineering #music-performance #music-teaching

The answer is yes, but it may take you a little longer to get through school. I do suggest that you look at ways to combine your passions. There are needs for engineering in the audio field. The microphones and speakers have MEs and EEs who design them. The sound mixing board have a lot of EE design, Software Design, and some ME design. The Audio Studios also require engineers who know how to design a room for acoustics. You have a lot of choices.

Of course, you can pursue one as a career and one as a hobby.

Kathie’s Answer

You may hear that obtaining a balance between work and home life is important and I could not agree more. Engineering is a difficult major and having that "outside" interest will help to provide that balance. There are opportunities to participate in school organizations such as acapella groups or other choral ensembles. While the majority of participants come from the Music or Arts programs, they are usually open to all students. Your choral interest may not lead to a degree, but it is a gift you can share with others for many years to come.
