Are you talking about a school application or a job application?
Certain rules apply to both: neatness, accuracy. Proper spelling and punctuation. No, "like" slang, ya know?
Try to back up what you say with examples. Rather than say you are good at math, it is more convincing if you say you tutor others in that subject, for example.

Criminology/law enforcement fields look for people who are honest, dependable, decisive (willing to make an unpopular decision and stick to it), have a good credit rating, avoid drugs and people who use them, etc. Do everything you can to be a good person, all the way around. They will do a background check, and talk to your teachers and neighbors.
