I think the requirements vary depending on what type of marketing you're hoping to go into, but I think there are some general traits or skills most hiring managers would look for in someone starting a career in marketing outside of your focus in school. (often marketing, business, communications, psychology)

-Creative problem-solvers: You can't keep running the same marketing campaigns or messaging over and over, you have to think creatively about how to position your company, product, or service in a unique way that will resonate with your target customers.
-Collaborative: Marketers often work with many cross-functional partners, so it's important to be able to work in a team setting.
-Attention to detail: As a marketer you might be working on an ad that millions of people will see or determining the right targeting criteria for a campaign. It's important to have an eye for detail so that you can execute on campaigns flawlessly.
-Customer-centric: Your customers is at the forefront of what you do in marketing. Everything you work on should be in service of communicating the right message to the right customers at the right time. If you focus only on what's good for the company, and not what's good for the customer, you'll end up with marketing campaigns that are ineffective.
-Storyteller: A great marketer needs to be a great storyteller. Impactful marketing should create an emotional connection with the audience through effective storytelling.
-Project management skills: It's important to have the ability to set priorities, plan, and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Rebecca recommends the following next steps:

Look at entry level marketing job descriptions to see what types of qualifications they're looking for.
Take business, marketing, or communications classes.
Build a portfolio of your videos, graphic design work, etc.
Find opportunities to take on marketing projects either through internships or opportunities on campus.

^ I agree with them.

Something that I wanted to recommend is talking some courses from https://www.domestika.org/en - they have amazing trainers and the courses are not expensive!

Good luck!

I'd advise you to always spend some time looking for references in different sites like Pinterest, Behance, Ads of the World, Adweek and site like these to get new ideas. It's important that you know how to work in teams and listen to them because during these conversations you can learn something or even find a solution for the problem.
Also, I recommend that you try to understand where your job will be applied in the whole process/campaign. From there, you'll get to know more about marketing and see that your video or graphic is something more important than you might thing.
My final tip would be to be open mind about everything and never stop learning a new software or skill. You can find a lot of tutorials on YouTube for free and, if you would like, some paid online courses on sites like Coursera, Udemy and Skillshare.

Something that I like about marketing is that there are so many opportunities to exercise your creativity and make an impact. If it is something you are interested in, I highly recommend taking an online course, attaining an online certification, or getting hands on experience in an internship/job role related to marketing. Some requirements/"nice-to-haves" that I have come across as I applied to internships and jobs are:
- Openness to learn
- Ability to adapt
- Writing and communication skills
- Design skills
- Knowledge of social media best practices for businesses
- Analytics
* You may not need to possess ALL of these skills. Like I mentioned, there are many different types of marketing. You can check the specific job listing to know what skills are required for that specific role.

If you have samples of work that you have created that demonstrate your experience with marketing--or your ability to write, design, etc. in general--it is helpful to include these in your job application. It does not necessarily need to be from a professional role: a project from a class works too! You can share these samples a number of ways. For example, you can create a website that showcases your work. Or, you can directly upload your work as an attachment if there is a space for this on your job application. Or, you can include it on your LinkedIn profile.

Hope this helps!

Great question! There can be many different answers to your question depending on the employer, and position you are looking at. Most Marketing jobs will want you have a Bachelors degree in Marketing, or Graphic Design or be in the process of getting your Bachelors. During your degree you will learn so much about marketing, and it will set you up with some great networking opportunities with employers. I would recommend looking into some colleges you may be interested in and researching their marketing programs and finding the college that will best prepare you for the type of marketing job you want.

If you really want to go into Graphic Design or Video Editing I would recommend having a portfolio of all of the amazing work you've designed and put together to show off your skills! This is a great way to show off who you are to employers and show the great skills that you have.
