Waleed’s Answer

Hello, Krystina R.
A midwife is a good job for people who want to educate women about health issues and help pregnant women to have a healthy labour and delivery. This is also a good career choice because there is a strong job outlook. Nurse-midwives are expected to see significant growth in job opportunities in the coming years.

Good luck!!

Tonya’s Answer

Yes, being a midwife/nurse midwife is a good occupation. The definition of good can vary by each person. I will define good as; being a midwife provides the opportunity to care for others at one of the most special times of life, the birth of newborns. Being a midwife provides the opportunity to care for people of different ages and genders. Midwives work in varies settings. And, being a midwife is a profession that one can do for many years. I did not include aspects of salary or title because those items can change by where the midwife works. When someone enjoys their work as a midwife or applies their midwifery knowledge to their job, the salary and title may not be as important as the opportunity to care for another person’s health and wellness, to advocate for others, the opportunity to make a positive difference in someone’s life, and work-life balance.

To give you a little background on midwives; the word midwifery means with woman. Midwives care for women, families, and many different people. Midwifes are primary care provider (provides a variety of healthcare services) and can work in hospitals, birthing centers, clinics, home births, women’s/family health centers and private healthcare offices, to name a few locations. Midwives also teach, provide community service, are leaders/directors, policy makers, and more. You can look on the website for the American College of Nurse Midwives for more information (see website link below).

As a midwife, I have been blessed to work as a nurse, nurse midwife, nursing faculty, teacher/educator/facilitator of learning, speaker for career opportunities, mentor, and educator for healthcare professionals.

As you study to become a midwife remember to:
*Study hard
*Focus on your goals
*Learn perseverance
*Take care of yourself so you can take care of others
*Learn from challenges and improve each day

Shelby’s Answer

Hi Krystina! A midwife can be a great career if you are interested in helping women deliver babies and taking care of pregnant women. If the medical field interests you, but you're looking for a more natural and homeopathic route, this is possibly a good fit.
