Environmental Science vs. Human Anatomy & Physiology

I am currently in 12th grade and I want to make sure I make the right decision with my courses. I am thinking of majoring in either computer science, something in engineering, or maybe biomedical. I feel as though ES might be good due to its value in our contemporary world (environmental issues). #college #stem #college

Hi Merin! I do not have much experience in either of those fields, but I would ask your academic advisor/school counselor regarding this. They might have some good insight to consider. Also, I would not worry too much or put pressure about making the "right" decision right now! If you go into college and talk with the college academic advisor and decide a different path is better, you have the time and resources to do so. People may put a lot of weight in having all the answers or not changing majors, but I think you have time within the first two years to change your mind and see what suits you (or add in a minor or two!) Of course your mindset may depend on what your planned timeline is as well. Sometimes in careers, some people even started off with an undergraduate major that seemed very different from their end goal. If you are interested in environmental science, I would personally say go for it and consult your academic advisor along the way as you get a better picture of what your career goals are. I started off with a major in Psychology and minor in Biology with the end goal to be a physician assistant. I just really was interested in Psychology so I decided to major in it and get all the pre-requisite classes done for PA school. In my sophomore year, I realized PA was not the right path for me and took classes regarding speech therapy, counseling and asked about occupational therapy, as well as went to career counseling. I ended up realizing I wanted to focus on counseling and psychology! It ended up helping me to major in what I was interested in! Your situation may be different, but it could be worth a try. Keep getting advice and consider things slowly. Good luck!

Seeing that you are barely beginning your college journey, you will have a lot of time to complete all the necessary courses for whatever major you decide. I advice that you focus on completing GEs for your first quarter/semester while you get general academic advising. It is even better to get academic advising from the specific department your major is in as they will know what courses are best for you.
