What opportunities are available for high-schoolers in the business field?

Hi, my name is Brandon Cheung and I am currently attending high-school. I am curious about how to gain as much experience while I can during this time, and curious about how and where to do so. #highschool

Hi Brandon!

Happy to hear that you are interested in the business field. I previously attended West Chester University for a dual degree in Finance and Management and feel it is a transferrable and versatile degree.

If your high school offers a DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) program, that is a great way to begin! DECA is a business program that will have you come up with business pitches, argue your point of view on business ethics and more. It is a well-rounded program that covers anything from accounting to marketing. It starts locally and as you work your way up you could be attending conferences across the country. You also have the ability to do this solo or with a team.

Another option is to look on job sites at business internships being offered for high school students. You can do this with a quick Google search of "business internships for high school students near me". Or to look at local community colleges that offer classes in the field of your interest.

Lastly, if you know you are interested in pursuing a career in business, however, you aren't exactly sure which major to select, this is where college programs come in very handy! At West Chester University, they have each new student take one of each of the business courses (accounting, marketing, finance, management, etc.) and once you complete your "requisites" you will then declare your major. It's a great way to test the fields to see what interests you most.

Best of luck and hope this helps you out!

Hi! I would recommend looking for any after school learning programs at local museums, schools, or colleges. Sometimes these programs are free, or have scholarships. There are also summer programs at colleges that you can attend to explore your interests.
