Amanda’s Answer

Hey Iakov. I know that your post was from last year, but if you're looking for more information on how to continue looking for Computer Science scholarships, I wanted to share some information with you:

Amanda recommends the following next steps:

1. Look to see if your school offers generalized scholarships to students.
2. Look to see if your school offers Computer Science department scholarships.
3. Search to see if any local businesses or groups offer scholarships.
4. Look to see if there are contests or shows you can enter. I got an art scholarship this way.
5. Search through scholarship websites to see other opportunities (Link to options: https://www.forbes.com/advisor/student-loans/best-scholarship-websites/)

Northeastern University’s Roux Institute, a graduate campus located in Portland, Maine, is offering generous scholarships for Northeastern master’s degrees and certificates in high-growth fields. Now is the perfect time to advance your career with a flexible, affordable graduate degree.

The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain understands that we all benefit from an educated workforce, and our Board of Directors, Scholarship Committee and staff are committed to the continued growth of scholarship funds that help local students pursue their educational goals.

The majority of the 55 and growing scholarships we manage are awarded to graduating seniors of local public high schools in the Foundation’s coverage area, which includes Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington. A small number are awarded to graduating seniors from Farmington, Newington and Wethersfield.

Those excelling in English will most likely apply for scholarships focusing on writing, literature and essays. For students who are most left-brained and interested in the “how”, “why”, and inner workings of things, there are scholarships that help promote different modes of thinking and interests and also help pay for school at the same time.

Technology is evolving every day and as such, so are the scholarship opportunities for students dedicated to the field. You may not know exactly what you will choose as your major yet, but you may already want courses full of equations, formulas, and brain-teasing exercises. Perhaps you want to be innovative like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin. You don’t necessarily want to see your name in lights but you think you could design a brighter, more efficient bulb. You are excited not only about the release of the latest smartphones, video games, and laptops but also about how they are able to work the way they do. If any of these descriptions sound like you, technology seems a likely route, so why not make your first contribution by submitting an application for a technology scholarship or two?

Jerel’s Answer

Some scholarships for college are merit-based. You earn them by meeting or exceeding certain standards set by the scholarship-giver. Merit scholarships might be awarded based on academic achievement or on a combination of academics and a special talent, trait, or interest. Other scholarships are based on financial need. You can learn about scholarships in several ways, including contacting the financial aid office at the school you plan to attend and checking information in a public library or online.
