How long does it take people to become a doctor?

I am in secondary 4 right now and I want to be a doctor. How long will it take me to finish the college and medical university in Canada especially in the province of Quebec? And what will I learn in those years?

Hi!

In Quebec, after high school you undergo 2 years of CEGEP before applying to an university. As for medical school, most universities, including Mcgill University, it is 1 year of premed + 4 years (total 5 years). Afterwards, you'll before a medical resident for a couple years depending on your field (2-5 years).

During premed, you'll learn basic general science like physiology, anatomy, etc. You'll also have the option of picking a couple courses outside of the medical field as per your interests. After that first year, you'll dig into the heavy medical stuff like patient-physicien relationship, ethics, and every medical specializations (pathology, gynecology, surgery, etc.).
