What are some of the best nursing jobs helping people

I need some help with finding a specific kind of nurse that I wanna become because there are so many choices. Is there any kind that anyone would recommend to me. I have Good communicating skills, Caring and Patience. I also pay close attention the details

Thank you comment icon If you need to help people in the community, you may think of public health jobs, or volunteers jobs. Let me warn you, they do not pay very high, but they will give you the satisfaction you need. You can also work in school districts. I enjoy working with the mentally challenged kids because that helps me impact my community positively, and I gain knowledge and satisfaction from that. If you are a new Nurse, you may need to attend Nursing graduate program in a hospital, where you will be paired with a Mentor to help you gain practical experience. Dr. Gladys Ezem

If you are patient and compassionate, you may find that working with older adults and/or people diagnosed with mental illness is a good fit. Being able to organize and notice details is also very beneficial when working with these groups. I find that many people shy away from working with older adults, but this population has a lot of wisdom to share and also experiences a lot of complicated illnesses that require the expertise of excellent nurses. Persons who are diagnosed with a mental illness can experience a lot of stigma. Nurses can really help with this by educating the public and by being compassionate care providers. This offers nurses a unique opportunity to not only support individual patients, but also change the whole landscape of healthcare.

Dr. Colette Forde’s Answer

Try not to focus on the type of nurse you will become just yet. Once you get into a nursing program and start clinical rotations, you will be exposed to lots of different types of healthcare settings, patients in different age groups and consequently, with different types of problems. During this time, you will begin to develop likes and dislikes and this will help you begin to focus in on the areas you feel drawn to.
So many time, I have heard student nurses tell me they changed their minds once they were out in the clinical setting and were often surprised by the areas they felt drawn to. It is important to follow what is in your heart because if you work in an area you love, the work will not seem so hard and you will feel a deep sense of satisfaction in helping your patients. Because of the nursing shortage, you will more than likely have choices when you graduate. My best advice is remain flexible and open. You will have the option of changing the area you work in many times in your career, what could be more exciting than that !
