To become a midwife in New York City, you must meet New York State’s licensure requirements. You need to be at least 21, of good moral character, and complete approved midwifery education—either nursing plus midwifery training or an equivalent midwifery program—followed by passing a state‑approved exam. You must also be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and submit an application with the required fees.
