Christopher’s Answer

Absolutely! There's nothing like ONJT= On the Job Training. School can give you the blueprint, theories abs hypothetical situations that could happen. But real time on the job training in real life scenarios, you can't beat it.
If you humble yourself , and be willing to start at the bottom and be teachable. Then apply what you been taught, the sky is the limit

Mike’s Answer

Yes, 100%!!! Many folks enter this industry without a college degree or formal culinary school. For those that aren't interested in more school, the culinary field may be a great option.

Peter’s Answer

Yes you can! Here is a great resource for you. https://www.acfchefs.org/ You can do an apprenticeship program and grow in our profession that way. You’ll have to work hard and make sure you have a passion for the industry! You can also take culinary classes or go to culinary conferences at the local culinary school part time or on a class by class basis. Chefs are life long learners! Best of luck!
Cheers,
Chef Peter

William’s Answer

Yes Amir. Chef Pete gave you a great resource with the ACF. An apprenticeship is an excellent way. Be prepared though, the wages are not great. Hopefully you are passionate about this. I would suggest, do some personal budgeting/planning. You need a roof over your head that is safe and be able to pay whatever other personal expenses you have as well as RELIABLE transportation to work.
If this, is your passion go for it. It will take a lot of dedication along the way. Know that if you are reliable and focused, there are many people that will help you.
One more note Amir. The ACF is a good resource. Like any industry there are good and bad people that will make promises to you. If you work for good/professional people, they will keep their promises to you and help you grow your career.

Wishing the best for you,

Chef Bill

Sean’s Answer

You most definitely can, Amir. Working in a variety of restaurants, working your way up from the bottom is an excellent way to find out if you do really want to dedicate yourself to the industry. It is not for everyone and I believe it's better to get paid to learn on the job rather than incur a mountain of debt and possibly realize food service is not the fit for you. Do some research on the best restaurants in your area, get your foot in the door in one of them, always be open to following directions, learning and improving and you will be surprised at how quickly you can gain valuable skills and move up in the ranks.
Good Luck!
Sean
